Robbery foiled by hero cop
A DARING heist was foiled by good old-fashioned police work yesterday (Wednesday) after a snatch thief and his accomplice were chased by a beat officer.
PC Chris Fenton was standing in Brecknock Road, Tufnell Park, at around 1pm when a man ran over to a Post Office securior man, knocked him to the ground and took his cash box. The robber then jumped onto the back of a scooter ridden by his getaway driver which had suddenly turned into the street.
But the thief dumped the box – which was empty – when he caught sight of the officer, who gave chase.
Post Office worker Ashvin Beshavaria said: “He came out of nowhere very fast and said ‘give me the box’. I knew it was empty and gave it to him, and then he pushed me over. Then he ran.”
Mr Beshavaria praised the officer’s efforts saying “it was very good – the robbery was very unexpected”.
Eyewitness Louise Adamson, 18, described the men as in their late 20s. She said: “The police man was right there. They’re crazy.”
Police are hunting three suspects and have made no arrests.
