Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published:18 January 2007

Tell us if wardens can stay

IT IS now seven weeks since I handed Councillor Ben Rawlings (Executive Member for Community Safety) a letter asking him if there was any truth in the rumour that the King’s Cross street wardens were to be replaced.
He has still not had the courtesy to reply to me.
But I now hear that the wardens are being forced out of their office by the housing department at the end of this month.
As no new base has been offered to them in King’s Cross, they will have to move to premises in Camden Town.
Can Cllr Rawlings now tell us if it is true or not that the wardens are soon to be removed from working in King’s Cross?
It would be a great mistake to do so. The wardens have made a great difference to our area, contributing to a reduction in crime and anti-social behaviour.
They have been a success, but the council must not be complacent and needs to find them a new office in King’s Cross and allow them to continue their vital work in our area.
