Centre a joy to attend
• I AM absolutely delighted at the establishment of the day centre for the elderly at the Surma Community Centre, 1 Robert Street, Somers Town.
The new day centre has been an absolute joy in my life and I am extremely pleased at the services they offer the elderly Bangladeshi community in the area.
Since attending the new day centre on a regular basis, I have not been spending as much time on my own at home in my flat in isolation.
I used to find it difficult making friends within my neighbourhood because I couldn’t speak English.
At the day centre however I have made some fantastic friends and have met some really interesting people.
Talking and meeting with these people on a regular basis has also helped alleviate my stress levels.
My physical health has also improved since joining the centre as I regularly attend the centre’s swimming sessions.
The health talks and sessions they provide are also useful and I have learnt a lot about how to maintain and enjoy a healthy lifestyle.
I would like to thank everyone involved in setting up the day centre and I can’t express how much of a difference it has made in my life.
I am so glad that I have had this opportunity to meet people and improve myself and I wish that more elderly people like myself could be given the same chance.
