Water co in dock over shoddy work
CAMDEN Council is prosecuting Thames Water for more than 100 offences of shoddy work and illegal road closures.
The water company has been issued with summonses relating to 50 sites and 111 offences but is pleading not guilty to all.
A Camden Council spokesman said: “We take highway offences very seriously. We have issued summonses to Thames Water under both the New Road and Street Works Act 1991 and the Highways Act 1980. The offences range from the poor state of the roads and footpaths after their works are completed, to site safety and wilful obstruction of the public highway, including unauthorised and illegal temporary road closures.”
The company faced Highbury Corner Magistrates last week (Friday), where a date for a pre-trial hearing was set.
A Thames Water spokesman said: “We don’t comment on active cases. It might prejudice the case.”
