Top-form Harrier flies to victory in the mud
TOP Highgate Harrier Astrid Wingler was in outstanding form on Saturday as she ran to glory in the North of Thames Women’s Cross-Country Championships at Fryent Country Park in Kingsbury.
The veteran slogged through the mud in impressive style to complete the 6000m course in a winning time of 25minutes, 52 seconds.
Club mates Annabelle Lovejoy and Aneira Rose-McClew continued Highgate’s success, finishing in 13th and 14th spot respectively.
Elsewhere Chris Beecham put in a commanding performance in the Box Hill Fell race near Dorking on Saturday to finish second out of a field of 159 runners.
IT proved a quiet weekend for runners from London Heathside with only two members from the club turning out for the North of Thames Cross-Country Championships on Saturday. Matching each other stride for stride, teammates Norman Michell and Adam Dunakjo finished just seconds apart, hitting home in 13th and 14th place respectively.
Meanwhile on Sunday, Julian Ferraro ran well to take 10th spot in the Fred Hughes 10 Mile Road Race in St Albans, recording a time of 57mins, 42secs.
ALICE Keane was all smiles at the weekend when she won bronze in the South of England Athletic Championships in her first-ever indoor 1500m race at the Lee Valley Centre in Edmonton.
Despite being only 14-years-old, the talented Highgate Harrier (right), who lives in Tufnell Park, lined up in the under-17s category where she took third place with an impressive time of 5.34.67.
In the girls’ under-15s shot putt, Eucalypta Bradley made it into the finals before finishing in a very respectable fifth place with a new personal best of 9.12 metres.
