Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 1 February 2007

Cross over Cross River proposals

• I RECIEVED a Cross River Tram Public Consultation pack over Christmas and managed to open it after New Year.

To my dismay, I found Euston to King’s Cross via Somers Town route was stated as one of the options in Section Two. I thought that this was not going to happen?
I would not be able to bear the noise of trams from early morning till late at night passing right under our bedroom window, in addition to the noise and dust from construction works. Our children’s safety would be at risk, too, as there are primary schools and nurseries along the route.
Transport for London (TfL) says that serving Somers Town directly is one of “advantages”, but I wonder whether it is necessary for us to be served by trams when Eversholt Street and Euston Road are only a couple of minutes’ walk away. I feel sorry for the residents on Crowndale Road and Pancras Road, which are already bus routes, and wonder why the tram cannot just turn into Euston Road towards King’s Cross.
I would like to urge residents who have received this consultation pack to answer ‘No’ to this Somers Town route, though I doubt how seriously TfL would take local residents’ opinions.

• THE Transport for London advertisement in last week’s CNJ concerning the cross river tram, states that “there is still time to have your say” on the proposal.
I
f the westward extension of the congestion charging zone is anything to go by, there is little point in having your say. Although residents, businesses and the relevant local authorities are against the extension, it is going ahead nonetheless.
