Victim 'caught in feud crossfire'
A GANG of 30 youths from Tottenham are the prime suspects
in the shocking murder of 18-year-old Swiss Cottage student
Mahir Osman on Saturday night.
Mahir, of Adelaide Road, was stabbed repeatedly in the brutal
attack in the heart of busy Camden Town. He died in the early
hours of Sunday at the Royal Free Hospital. Police arrested
25 youths on a number 253 bus in Camden Road minutes after the
attack but between five and seven escaped by smashing a window
on the top deck and jumping out.
A second bus was commandeered to take the suspects to police
stations across north London, but they were all released on
police bail on Monday morning.
Friends of Mahir, whose father fled his war-torn homeland of
Somalia to live in Camden 14 years ago, say he was the innocent
victim of a long-running feud between Somalis living in Camden
and Haringey. They all stress he was a well-behaved boy caught
in the crossfire of a feud he had nothing to with. |
