Robben's
dramatics just made me cringe
I
REMEMBER writing an incensed column about Patrick Vieira spitting
at Neil Ruddock a few years ago.
The furore then was almost as great as the fuss that enveloped
the Sol Campbell saga this week. But while many were disgusted
by Vieiras behaviour, I felt much more outraged after
watching Arjen Robben crash to the ground on Sunday night. Sure,
Chelsea v Liverpool games are charged affairs these days. Liverpool
hold the trophy Chelsea so desperately want and controversially
beat the Blues along the way to win it.
But there is no excuse for the type of histrionics Robben showed
when Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina tapped him on the cheek. At
least Vieira was wearing his heart on his sleeve, even if he
left Ruddock wearing phlegm on his. The Frenchman rightly received
a six-match ban for his behaviour. The Liverpool player might
receive a similar punishment. What about Robben?
IVE taken the plunge and taken my first swimming
lesson at Kentish Town Baths.
It was in the learner pool that, under new plans, may be replaced
by a moveable floor in a larger pool. If the learner pool has
to go this is one high-tech solution that must never be ditched.
Because without the comfort of a smaller pool, I wouldnt
have had the courage to even step foot in the water.
