Prince’s birthday greetings to museum
PRINCE Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall visited the Jewish Museum in Camden Town on Tuesday to mark its 75th anniversary.
The Prince, who became patron of the museum this year – his first of a Jewish organisation – and the Duchess toured the museum’s galleries and were given an overview of Jewish history.
The royal couple met staff leading a religious education programme on the Jewish Sabbath with Year 5 pupils from St Mary’s and St Pancras Primary School in Camden Town.
They met the royal couple with Union Jack flags had been found buried in a basement at the school by teachers during recent rebuilding work.
The Prince, who wished the museum a happy 75th birthday, told staff he was honoured to be patron and said he was looking forward to coming back and visiting the newly-expanded Jewish Museum.
Museum director Rickie Burman said: “We are honoured and privileged that the Prince of Wales has most graciously agreed to be our patron for this anniversary and greatly appreciate the visit.
“It is a wonderful recognition of the museum’s importance in highlighting the heritage of one of Britain’s oldest minority communities and in contributing to inter-faith understanding and respect.” |
