Weather wreaks havoc

Camden and Islington Youth League

THE turbulent weather saw all of Friday’s games postponed in the Camden and Islington Youth League at Market Road.
One of the few fixtures that did go ahead saw EC1 Elite beat Somers Town 3-1 in the under-11s ‘A’ League. Top scorer Jason Williams bagged a brace, while Billy Stewart was also on target for Elite.
The hero of the hour was debutant goalkeeper Nicholas Thornton, who pulled off a series of excellent saves to earn EC1 all three points.
In the under-12s ‘A’ league, Tufnell beat Islington Admiral Youth by the same score-line. Sharp shooter Remy Danily struck twice, with Brian Lyimo also scoring.
A single strike from Ryan Goodheart earned St Pancras a
1-0 win over Finsbury Park in the under-12s ‘B’ league.

Camden Sunday League

THE Camden Sunday League was also brought to a shuddering halt at the weekend as frozen and waterlogged pitches forced Hackney Marshes to remain closed.
All 13 matches were postponed, including the top of the table clash between Division One leaders Holloway Celtic and Phoenix.
The league resumes Sunday when the quarter-finals of both the Senior Cup and the Junior Cup take centre stage.

Football

ONLY two of Hampstead Football Club’s 22 teams managed to beat the winter weather at the weekend as leagues across Camden and Islington were brought to a standstill.
Hamps’ under-11s may have wished they hadn’t bothered turning up as they lost 2-1 against Belmont United in the Harrow Youth League on Sunday.
JJ Thompson opened the scoring in the Division Two clash, but United hit back to seal a narrow victory.
The under-13s side enjoyed a better afternoon as they twice came from behind to beat Greenford Celtic in a five-goal thriller.
Seb Sundvik’s stunning 30-yarder and a thunderous drive from Liam McGrath saw the game tied at 2-2, before CJ Burke headed home the winner for Hampstead.
