Unions warn
strike could hit schools
SCHOOL children could be sent home if council workers
go on strike next month, union officials have warned.
Camden NUT branch secretary Kevin Courtney revealed 12 public-sector
unions would ballot for industrial action on March 28 as fears
that teaching staff will have to work five years longer than
their colleagues.
The proposed changes will see support staff lose a quarter of
their pension if they retire at 60 while teachers working with
them wont be affected.
Mr Courtney said: Support staff pensions should be handled
in the same way as teachers pensions. There are as many
support staff as teachers. If they strike, schools will close. |
