Extreme weather conditions were snow joke for schools
• I WRITE in response to a letter from William Nawrocki (Farce of school snow decision, February 15).
Surely Mr Nawrocki had to be somewhat snow-blinded by the events during the adverse weather conditions which hit the whole of the country.
He makes very clear his personal opinions of the school’s management, staff and governing body, by attacking the good work of all the staff of New End Primary School. His personal attack is unjustified. He claims gross mismanagement which is of course his freedom of entitlement to express his opinion. However, school closures on that day not only affected schools in Camden but also the whole country in general, admittedly most if not all councils were unprepared for this blanket of snow despite severe weather warnings the day before. The ‘mob’ of teachers referred to in his statement is grossly unfair criticism, they are not learning aids? Surely Mr Nawrocki knows the difference, learning aids are items of equipment used to promote and assist in learning.
The individuals are in fact dedicated teaching support staff, who alone was not deterred by the adverse weather conditions on that day, despite lack of public transportation they made the effort to turn up for work, ultimately I am sure in what you deem to be gross mismanagement was in fact “common sense” on the grounds of health and safety. Mr Nawrocki, you yourself made the hazardous trek across the Heath in what you claim was a winter in wonderland. The list of dangers you were exposed to could have been hypothermia, slipping accidents, etc. Commonsense should have prevailed in you to conduct a risk assessment.
It would appear the only thing you failed to think of during your trek across winter in wonderland was the husky dogs to pull the sledge. The decision to close the school was correct.
Surely if you are that disgruntled with the school’s management and governing body then take it up with them direct, instead of voicing your frustrations out in an open forum letter.
