I fear we live in a police state
• THE recent arrests of six men on a charge of ‘intention’ to kidnap and murder a Muslim soldier is the latest in a series of raids the police have made on seemingless tenuous grounds and have caused alarm in some that we’re now living in a police state.
On that view the arrests are politically motivated rather than being justice-based.
I don’t know about that but as someone who would describe himself as basically a Christian who is not in agreement with the Muslim faith I am nonetheless concerned how these days a Muslim only has to sneeze in the street to be arrested on charges of terrorism. Is this really the kind of society of which we can be proud?
I think the imminent removal of Mr Blair from office will help improve matters to some degree but it will be a long time before the wounds of this bloody Iraq war and its fall-out will heal.
