Where is
the housing cash?
I and thousands of other council estate residents
protested outside Parliament last week for a fair deal on council
housing. Here in Camden money is desperately needed to improve
the quality of the estates and the government is still sitting
on £283 million it promised us two years ago.
After the councils plan for an arms-length management
organisation (Almo) fell apart their allies in Westminster went
into a sulk and refused to hand over the cash.
Everyone who lives on a Camden estate knows how much the money
is needed and the government admitted this when they set it
aside in the first place. If they had the money to give us then
they must have it now so why wont they hand it over? And
why, if we have a Labour council and a Labour government, is
it left to housing campaigners including Camdens
Liberal Democrats to demand our money back?
