Sobering thought for chatty drivers
• AS a pedestrian and a cyclist, and sometimes a driver I am very alarmed by the high proportion of drivers I still see around Camden every day using their mobile phones. It’s actually been an offence since 2003, but clearly not one that the police have been bothered about.
However, be aware that the law has just changed such that it is now a minimum fine of £60 and three points on your driving licence. I do hope the police will take the safety issue more seriously and enforce the new law by starting with a high profile campaign, as is currently the case in Edinburgh.
And if you are unfortunate enough to be in a crash, insurers may well refuse to pay out – now, there’s a sobering thought.
