‘Don’t touch King’s X buildings’
CAMPAIGNERS fighting the King’s Cross re-development have been told they will have their day in the High Court.
Mr Justice Andrew Collins ruled at the Royal Courts of Justice on Friday that a judicial review could be held into the way in which Camden Council gave permission for developers Argent Limited to start work on the railwaylands behind King’s Cross and St Pancras stations. He said that the grounds for complaint could be “considered to be arguable”.
A full hearing in court is now likely to be held in early May. In the meantime, Argent have been told not to demolish buildings on site.
The case has been brought by King’s Cross Think Again, a campaign group of objectors in the area. Their lawyers argue that Camden councillors were given faulty advice by Town Hall officers when they signed off the scheme last November. Jamie Beagent, of law firm Leigh Day and Co, said: “We are glad the court has taken such a commonsense approach, recognising that the legal challenge has real substance and directing the case to be heard as soon as possible.
“Crucially, the court has ordered the developer not to demolish important heritage buildings before the legal challenge is heard – something it has been threatening to do.”
