SPECIAL REPORT: AS THE TOWN
HALL PREPARES TO GIVE THE GO AHEAD TO A £2BN SCHEME THAT
WILL CHANGE KINGS CROSS FOREVER, RICHARD OSLEY INVESTIGATES
KX chief stands by his plans
ARGENT chief executive Roger Madelin last night (Wednesday)
claimed objectors to his companys plans for Kings
Cross were in a tiny minority and should not be allowed to stand
in the way of a great opportunity for the areas rebirth.
Mr Madelin said that thousands of residents in Kings Cross
and Somers Town backed plans for the overhaul.
He said: The objectors are a small handful of people,
a tiny minority. They are very vocal and ring you guys up a
lot. I have spoken to thousands of people who say lets get on
with it. They want to take this opportunity to end the blight
and uncertainty in Kings Cross
In defence of the project, Mr Madelin said that the overhaul
would create nearly 2,000 new homes and 25,000 new jobs.
He added: If you do any more homes then you risk losing
out on the equation with the cluster of culture, education and
retail uses on the site. |
