Booze in
the park
THE ROYAL Parks have asked for blanket permission to stage
pop concerts, show films and serve alcohol in Regents
Park leading to fears of a summer of disruption in surrounding
neighbourhoods.
Park bosses said a new licence would be used sparingly and that
beer tents would stop serving alcohol at events at 10.30 pm.
But if an application to Camdens licensers is successful,
the Royal Park Agency will effectively be given the right to
hold events, including music festivals, whenever it wants.
The agency has asked for a daily entertainments licence from
10am to 10.30 pm, serving alcohol from noon onwards. It also
wants permission to show films on projectors until midnight.
Malcom Kafetz, chairman of the Friends of Regents Park,
said: People are getting hot under the collar about this.
The Royal Parks said that they only need a licence for 20 events
when we met them but they have asked for carte blanche to do
what they like.
A statement from the Royal Parks Agency said: Many events
or entertainments are aimed at audiences of mixed age range,
typically family groups. There is no history of any problems
with this type of events in relation to the licensing objectives. |
