Save our bus pass
• ALTHOUGH I live on the border of Barnet, yards from Camden, may I offer my warmest support to MPs Frank Dobson and Glenda Jackson in their fight to preserve “the bus pass” (MPs back under-fire bus pass, March 1).
There are many arguments I could put forward, but one will do. Has it ever occurred to Phil Taylor that the pass is funded by the councils and that there are many pensioners, and many who are far from being “very old”, who are struggling to pay ever-rising council tax?
Where exactly does the largesse come in?
If Mr Taylor wants to stretch the already overstretched resources for treating the elderly, he has hit on an excellent scheme.
For more pensioners than he could ever count, life could become unbearable as their horizons closed in because they could not afford to go out.
Perhaps he should get on a bus and listen.
