Peace is restored
• WHEN they started, concerts at Kenwood were concentrated in the lake area and people could pass on the terrace and the lawns. There was little disturbance.
Over the years, they have become an industry, costly to set up and therefore needing to attract many thousands. Greater amplification was required, which, with firework displays, was intrusive, affecting the surrounding Heath.
Had English Heritage, responded to concerns raised, kept the scale reasonable and managed them in-house, there would be a surplus of income to benefit the estate. Instead, the cancellation of two (out of 10) concerts last year is said to have been ruinous.
It is not only some fortunate residents in the area who will benefit, but the thousands of visitors who throng to Kenwood in the long summer days. It is there for the quiet enjoyment of all.
