Estate ivy a victim of official’s decree
• TWENTY years ago I planted some ivy against the back of Hinchinbrook House on the Mortimer estate, in Kilburn.
It hugely improved the look of what had been a bare brick building. It also brought the birds. Now every spring, blackbirds, blue tits and robins raise families in the ivy.
Ivy has to be kept strictly under control. So every winter, at our own expense, we hire a long ladder and do the required cut back. However, an official in the Town Hall has decided all the ivy must come down.
The ivy is not damaging the building, and the official has not been to meet us on site and talk the matter over.
There needs to be immediate intervention so that justice is done.
