Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 8 March 2007

Who will reverse fortunes of this market in decline?

• LIKE many residents, I am worried about the state of Queen’s Crescent market.

It seems to have gone into sharp decline over the last nine months. The fish stall and the Italian cheese stall are not there any more. The promised Italian and French markets have never materialised. The gates are now often not closed properly and cars often drive up and down on market days, posing a danger to shoppers.
Even the pizzeria, Bull’s Pizza, has shut its doors. Meanwhile, the Christmas lights are still up, burning electricity and wasting lots of council tax payers’ money.
The market is vital to people in this area, particularly the elderly.
You can buy fruit and vegetables here much cheaper than in supermarkets.
And it was always rightly seen as the key to regenerating Gospel Oak. It does seem that, under this Lib Dem-Tory administration, Queen’s Crescent market is no longer a priority.
So, I hope our councillors and the mayor will take prompt action to reverse its fortunes.
SALLY GIMSON
Chairwoman, Gospel Oak Labour Branch
Oak Village, NW5
