Big Match Special

Our weekly spotlight on one of the league’s big games

Under-9s North
Lyndhurst Lions 3
Crown and Manor 0

THE Lions of Lyndhurst moved to within three points of league leaders St Pancras on Friday with a gritty victory in the latest of our Big Match Specials.
With four key players ruled out through illness, Crown and Manor were forced to play the entire match with just seven players.
But Crown didn’t make it easy as they defended in numbers, with Jaffru Paul and Mehmet Guneysu both putting in gutsy performances. Neither player could do anything about the opening goal though as Lions took a deserved lead midway through the first half.
Piers Small saw his initial shot blocked in a crowded penalty area, only for the ball to fall kindly for Rhys Trundell, who fired home from close range.
Crown threatened on the break with midfielder turned striker Alton Bell George proving a handful.
But any chance they had of getting something from the game didn’t last as man-of-the-match Hammed Lawal scored a fine individual goal shortly after the restart.
Picking up the ball in midfield, Lawal took on Crown’s defence before opening up the space to fire a shot across a stranded keeper.
Lions added a third late-on courtesy of a long-range effort from Tommy Walford.

Man of the Match
HAMMED LAWAL

A constant threat with his tireless running and direct football. Capped an energetic performance with the goal of the game.
