Berry in polls fight with Ken
GREEN Party activist Sian Berry has been chosen to challenge Ken Livingstone at the 2008 London mayoral elections.
Ms Berry, 32, who lives in Fortess Road, Kentish Town, has stood unsuccessfully at three Camden Council elections and once against Labour MP Glenda Jackson in Hampstead and Highgate. She was elected as the Greens’ principal spokesperson – their version of party leader – last year.
Ms Berry said: “Ken Livingstone has become more green as he has gone along. He listens to our members and he respects them. But there is work to do.”
She is to campaign on issues such as the level of affordable housing at the King’s Cross development, the Olympics and transport fares.
Ms Berry has also been included on the Green’s London Assembley elections list.
If the Greens gain more than 14 per cent of the votes London-wide, she will win a seat as an assembly member. |
