Young guns need to put nightmare behind them
Wenger believes talented youngsters will focus on the future
ARSENE Wenger believes that his young Arsenal side are ready to put a “horrendous” fortnight behind them and concentrate on finishing their first season at the Emirates Stadium on a high.
The Frenchman watched in horror from the sidelines as the Gunners were beaten in the final of the Carling Cup, and knocked out of the FA Cup and the Champions League in quick succession.
But Wenger feels the squad of talented youngsters that he has assembled are ready to learn from their disappointments and focus on their remaining games in the Premiership. “After such a disappointment it’s difficult to pick yourself up again, but on the other hand I know how proud they are, how much they want to show that they have quality and finish as close as possible to Manchester United and Chelsea.”
Wenger also revealed that he feels he is on the verge of having the perfect balance within the team and that the Gunners missed out on silverware this season by the smallest of margins. “I think 95 per cent of things are good in our team. But at the top level it is the five per cent that makes the difference.” Wenger told the clubs’ official website Arsenal.com.
Despite the Gunners failing to win any trophies this season, the Arsenal manager remains optimistic about the club’s future: “I feel there are a lot of positives,” he said.
Meanwhile one of Wenger’s most accomplished young proteges Cesc Fabregas has revealed that he wants to contribute more to the team by adding goals to his repetoire of skills.
Fabregas has fired more shots on goal in the Premiership than any other player but a combination of poor finishing, good goalkeeping and bad luck have thwarted the Spaniard time and again. |
