Fire treated
as arson
POLICE are investigating an arson attack after a mysterious
fire scorched the entrance of a Somers Town travel agent early
yesterday (Wednesday) morning.
Police and the fire brigade rushed to the head offices of Frontline
Travel in Chalton Street at 4.30am after massage parlour Steam
and Sun raised the alert.
The proprietor of Frontline Travel, Amin Meah, said a package
stuffed through the letterbox of his shop looked to have started
the blaze. He suspects arson following a dispute over credit
card fraud with one of his customers on Friday.
Mr Meah praised the quick thinking workers at Steam and Sun.
He said: No one else is around that early in the morning.
I think the damage is minimal the place could have gone
up if they hadnt called.
A policeman on the scene, who would not be named, said Scenes
of Crime Officers (SOCO) were investigating the blaze.
He said: There was minimal damage to the door and some
smoke damage inside. Its good the call came early from
Steam and Sun otherwise it would have been much worse.
The manager of Steam and Sun, who did not want to be named,
said: My colleague saw orange flames through the window
and rang the fire brigade. We were worried about the people
in the flats above.
A police spokesperson said: The incident is being treated
as arson and is being investigated by Camden Police. An open
mind is being kept as regards to a motive. |
