Don’t knock our community activists, go out and help them
• IT is such a shame that people like Silla Carron have to defend their actions and good works within their community.
When I first became a councillor in the Camden Town with Primrose Ward several open areas on Clarence Way were muddy pieces of land where anyone and everyone parked.
Castle Place was used as a run through by people who were up to no good. The stairs of the larger blocks were riddled with drug abusers who intimidated many residents and people who wanted to commit anti social behaviour saw Clarence Way as fair game.
Silla wasn’t happy with this so she rolled up her sleeves and got to work.
Together with her TA and the council she attended many meetings, harangued officers and councillors, fought for her community and got the funding to improve her estate.
Castle Place was gated, wardens and dog patrols working with Silla saw off the drug abusers and with government monies Clarence Way was regenerated, this would not have happened if Silla hadn’t fought for it.
Camden are proud of and grateful to our tenant association leaders who give up lots of their free time, voluntarily without pay to improve the quality of life for their neighbours. Don’t knock them, get out there and work with them! People like Johnny Murphy and his family, Cathy Pound, Jessica Buck, Eileen Marshall, Larraine Reva, Fran Heron and many more good hard working people, make Camden a much better place to live in! Grateful thanks to all of them.
