It’s not too late to protest
in a thriving Belsize Village
• I am happy to join the campaign launched last week
in your letters pages by Alan Brownjohn and others to save
the Post Office in Belsize Village. This pretty enclave of
small shops is one of the delights of the area and the Post
Office has been central to its life for many years.
It is always a pleasure to visit; everyone is always helpful
and friendly, just as in many small post offices around the
country. We cannot do without them. It is these small and
personal places that give communities their character. I hope
its not too late for an effective protest.

• Belsize Village thrives: your readers should know
that it is a flourishing shopping centre with a superb delicatessen,
an excellent greengrocers, a convenience store with an amazing
range of goods, an excellent newsagents/stationery store, a
dry cleaners/laundry, a chemist/health store, an off licence,
a local vet and a popular launderette.
For those who do not want to cook there is a range of restaurants
and cafes.
Your beauty and health needs are catered for with a range
of businesses extending westward along Belsize Lane.
Last but not least what characterises all of these businesses
are charming and friendly staff. Yes we regret the loss of
two businesses but we would encourage everyone to visit and
patronise these shops and services if we want the village
to continue to thrive.
