Error gives shops reprieve
A TOWN Hall blunder has granted shopkeepers in Swiss Cottage
fighting for their businesses an unexpected reprieve.
Planning chiefs approved an application by developers London
Merchant Securities two weeks ago to knock down the shops and
flats in Winchester Road and build three new buildings with
up to 73 flats.
But a planning error meant that objectors to the scheme, including
shopkeepers who argued the proposal would destroy their businesses,
were not informed of the meeting.
Councillors will now hear the proposals again next Thursday.
A Town Hall spokeswoman said: This was an unusual situation
because officers recommended a refusal which are not normally
presented to the committee. So the normal letters informing
local people of the committee meeting were not sent.
The application will now go back to the next meeting on
March 23 in order to deal with planning conditions and a legal
agreement. Local people will be invited and their views heard.
Once members have heard all the additional information,
then they can come to a final decision. |
