Café shows
Starbucks the way
A CAFé is expected
to open in a shop that proved too hot for coffee giant Starbucks.
Number 115 Regents Park Road in Primrose Hill was at the
centre of a massive row four years ago when the multinational
company had plans to move in.
Actors Jude Law and Neneh Cherry were among residents who backed
a 1,300-strong petition pleading with Camden Council to stop
Starbucks in its tracks.
They argued that the company did not fit in with the villagey
feel of Primrose Hill. Starbucks later dropped its plans, lamenting
the animosity it had met in Primrose Hill.
Planning chiefs are expected to give permission for the building
to be turned into a café at a meeting tonight (Thursday).
Objections have been lodged at the Town Hall but the opposition
is nowhere near as strong as it was with the Starbucks application.
The new proposals have been submitted by Alexander Markwick,
who lives in nearby South Villas and is listed on business records
as a director of media firm Newsplayer.
Officials in the Town Hall planning department have recommended
that the change of use from a furniture shop should be allowed. |
