What madness to allow Dalby scheme
• THE announcement that the road closure at Dalby Street and so-called “improvements” at Prince of Wales Road have been approved has left our neighbourhood in a state of shock and utter disbelief (Clear road ahead for flats, March 22).
Despite admitting reservations about the defective scheme over the obvious physical constraints of the site, the planning committee has inexplicably passed the road changes.
Cllrs Mike Greene and Keith Moffitt will, forever after, be held personally responsible when the catastrophic results of their unwise decision prove to be a persistent problem in the future.
They won’t be able to hide behind ignorance of the facts. At their own peril, they have simply chosen to ignore sensible, common sense and well informed local objections.
Meanwhile, our own local councillors failed the community miserably in this instance. Apart from Cllr Roy Shaw who is away due to ill-health and can be forgiven, Lib Dem Jill Fraser and Labour Cllr Syed Hoque have wantonly neglected the welfare of those who elected them.
They did not bother to make any sort of representation which might have weighed in favour of lresidents.
And if per chance some gullible readers might think that Camden will benefit financially in some way or that the cost of the refurbishment of the Kentish Town Swimming Baths might be helped by the sale of the land acquired by the developers then think twice.
From all that I have been able to access, it would appear that this deal will benefit private developers TRAC Properties and their off shore purchaser and them only.
The price paid for this prime land at Talacre will, according to my own research, apparently cost the developers hardly anything at all (some £78,000 or there about) which will be unrecoverable.
People used to accuse the former council of selling the family silver. This new elected council doesn’t bother to sell it. They are simply giving it away.

• THE dust has not yet settled over the bizarre decision by the executive environment committee under the Lib Dem/Conservative coalition to allow the road closure at Dalby Street to go ahead despite very serious public concerns.
We voted Labour out last May in the hope of eradicating incoherent, irresponsible decision making.
It would seem that we have ended up with equally inept councillors who do not seem to understand the issues as well as residents do. They seem either incapable of making a proper intelligent assessment of the Dalby Street scheme or to say “no” to private developers.
A by-election is imminent in the Haverstock ward. Having now been let down miserably by Lib Dems and Conservatives, one can not help but wonder who are the voters in Haverstock going to turn to get some decent representation?

• HAVING now read through the decision regarding the road closure at Dalby Street and the proposed improvements at Prince of Wales Road, I was particularly alarmed by the recommendation that the access to the Talacre Sports Centre could only work if monitored by traffic marshals. Not only for temporary access, but for permanent access too.
This begs the questions? Who will pay for these marshals? How can this be successfully enforced? What happens if the developers go bankrupt? Will the developers be asked to put up a substantial bond which will cover this cost in the foreseeable future? Or are we the taxpayers likely to end up with the bill for such extravagant expense?
