Mansion owners face ‘repair it’ threat

PLANNING inspectors are threatening to take legal action against the owners of Witanhurst mansion in Highgate for failing to keep it in good condition.
Council officials have toured the grade-II listed house in Highgate West Hill. A planner said: “A site visit took place on March 12 and as a result of our observations we are considering serving an urgent works notice.”
Such action would demand that faults are rectified. The council has the right to order the work and then send the bill to the owners.
It is believed that among the areas of concern is a sports pavilion in the grounds, which in the past has been missing tiles. The mansion – the largest private property in the country after Buckingham Palace – has been on the market for more than a year. It was used for the television talent contest Fame Academy.
