Why are parents kept in the dark over swimming pool?
I HAVE a daughter at Primrose Hill School. Plans are
going ahead to do work on the school which includes scrapping
the swimming pool.
The parents I have spoken to are very upset about it. I
had a meeting with the head, Jane Hunter, this morning and she
confirmed that this is true. The aim is to get funding from
the government who are giving financial backing to schemes which
increase the size of classrooms. I am only speculating, but
doesn't that mean that you can fit more kids in so you have
a higher pupil to teacher ratio? Jane said she has tried to
get funding for the pool and failed and it is now falling into
disrepair, she seems to have completely rejected any hope of
trying to keep the pool. I pointed out that very few schools
have special little things like their own pool in the basement
and when I hear it is going because of money, it makes me very
sad. She mentioned the new pool at Swiss Cottage, but trips
like that cost money and being realistic how frequently is my
daughter going to be taken there by the school, compared to
going to their own pool? Its all very tragic and I feel the
parents are being shut out of consultations in these early stages,
to ensure it gets pushed through.
