Larry heads parade
LARRY the donkey was back on the streets of Camden Town on Sunday to lead the traditional Palm Sunday procession from Oakley Square to St Michael’s Church.
Larry, who travelled to Camden from his home in Hackney City Farm for the occasion, led more than 100 worshippers to the church in Camden Town where Father Nick Wheeler held a special service.
Churches taking part in the multi-ecumenical procession included St Pancras Old Church, St Mary’s in Eversholt Street, St Paul’s in Camden Square, the United Reform Church in Buck Street and the Metropolitan Community Church.
Pastoral assistant Stephen Stavrou said: “Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week which is when Christians remember the events leading up to the death and resurrection of Christ. “The procession marks Jesus’s entry into Jerusalem on a donkey when people greeted him with palms.”
