Camden youths taking part in the Cardboard Citizens programme at the Roundhouse |
On stage… The dramas that teenagers face
Teenagers struggling to find jobs or a place to live have written a play offering a first-hand account of the hurdles they face.
Working with Cardboard Citizens, the only professional homeless theatre company in the country, the 40-strong team toured three venues last month, including the Roundhouse in Chalk Farm and the Central School of Speech and Drama in Swiss Cottage, with their show, Act On It.
They also performed at a homeless drop-in centre in Islington. The youths, some of whom are homeless, spent six weeks writing and rehearsing the show.
Lib Dem council leader Councillor Keith Moffitt, who attended the Roundhouse show, said: “It was great. It felt very real.” |
