Academy hot-shots crush Tigers in quest for future glory

PLAYERS from the new Pro Touch Soccer Academy (PTSA) continued their quest to become professional footballers on Saturday when they beat London Tigers at Regent’s Park.
Having beaten the Year 8 Camden and Islington District team in their opening game in January, the under-14s super squad made it two wins out of two with a convincing 2-0 victory over the Tigers.
Man of the match Umar Ba and defender Luke Fagan quickly tamed the Tigers as they put in outstanding performances for the academy side.
The opener was worth the wait as Gerald Chiko-dzamapfeni collected a stunning pass form Khamal Akinjiola before slotting the ball past the keeper.
Tigers were given the chance to equalise from the penalty spot in the final minutes.
But captain Mark Halpin pulled off a stunning save, stopping his second penalty in as many games.
New signings Max Bland, Glenn Sonko, Tylon Riley and Michael Graham came off the bench to make impressive debuts for the academy.
In the final seconds, Gerald added the finishing touches to the win when he made the most of a perfect pass from Duane O’Achie to score his second of the game, taking his tally to an incredible five goals in two games.
Academy director Ash Rahman said after the game: “It’s amazing how much the lads have improved in such a short time. The academy is about the team development and not the results, but just try telling the boys that.”
“The players are getting stronger by the game, and are still on a high following their game against Nottingham Forest last month.”
To help raise funds top coaches from the PTSA, which was launched in January this year to help future football stars make it in the beautiful game, have organised a new eight-a-side tournament. It will be held in King’s Cross on Sunday 22 and 29 April, the competition is open to teams of both sexes and mixed sides.
The academy is also inviting player’s aged 15 to 17-years-old to sign up for their new development team.
