Celtic seal cup victory
Camden sunday league senior cup final
MAN of the match Rick Waller led the celebrations for Holloway Celtic on Sunday after they beat rivals Globetown to win the Senior Cup at Wadham Lodge in Walthamstow.
In a nervy opening 45 minutes, Waller proved the difference between the sides when he fired Celtic ahead midway through the half following a mix-up in the Globetown defence.
Holloway doubled their advantage on the hour mark when leading scorer Anthony Clark scored from the spot after Lee Woods was brought down in the penalty area.
In their worst performance of the season, things went from bad to worse for Globetown when they had a player sent off.
Amazingly the red card seemed to spark the Division One league leaders into life and they were quickly given a glimmer of hope when the referee pointed to the spot after Waller was harshly judged to have handled the ball in the area.
Top marksman Peter Walsh kept his nerve from 12-yards to pull a goal back for Globetown, and they could have been level minutes later only for Danny Carson’s rasping shot to come back off the bar.
In the end, a commanding team performance saw Celtic seal a deserved victory and lift the first major silverware of the season.
Elsewhere there were goals galore as the Bill Price Cup was whittled down to the final four.
FC Bertoli sealed a
3-0 victory over Boston to set-up a semi-final showdown against Cobden Athletic, who beat Deadly Scorpions 5-4 in a nine-goal thriller.
AFC Shooters are also through following a 1-0 win over Mayville. They will face the Surreal Madrid ‘A’ team for a place in the final after Madrid clinched a 2-1 win over Archway.
Meanwhile in Division One, champions Reddot made a two-player advantage count as they sealed a comfortable 8-0 victory over a depleted Phoenix side fielding only nine players.
Leading scorer Jason Medford bagged a brace, while Alexie Nicolaou, John Donovan, Alexie Nicolaou, Tony Dowsett and Micky Dowsett were also all on target for Reddot.
John Yates completed the scoring for Reddot when he came out of goal in the final 10 minutes to score his first goal of the season from the penalty spot.
