Camden’s mayors past and present pay their respects to Bill Budd |
Mourners’ final farewell to ex-mayor ‘who will be sorely missed ’
MOURNERS paid their last respects to former Camden mayor Bill Budd at his funeral on Thursday.
Mr Budd, who died two weeks ago aged 86, was laid to rest near his home in Bedford.
Mourners, led by his widow Iris, included a number of former Camden mayors and representatives from the London Labour Mayors Association, of which Mr Budd was president. They were joined by the current leader of the council, Lib Dem councillor Keith Moffitt, and Councillor Dawn Somper, who is to become Camden’s first Tory mayor next month.
An engineer by trade, Mr Budd worked for the Communications Workers Union as well as serving four wards as a Camden councillor.
His time in the services was marked. He had been in the Eighth Army and served as Winston Churchill’s bodyguard. Representatives of the Memorable Order of Tin Hats (MOTH), a servicemen’s association, attended with their standard.
Former councillor Jim Turner said: “He was a good friend and an excellent colleague. We will all sorely miss him.” Camden Mayor Jill Fraser added: “He was a good person, and always helpful.” |
