Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 19 April 2007
Why shut the bar?
• IT was a real sadness for many of us at the council to realise that Roy Shaw would no longer be able to serve as a councillor, a role he has carried out with distinction for over 50 years (Record breaker bows out, April 12).
But it was somehow fitting that this political watershed was marked by the spiteful and unilateral decision to withdraw the council cash bar, where Roy was a regular, and where constituents had been able to mingle with councillors and officers.
This was a place for councillors of all parties to get to know each other over a meal and a drink during a long council evening, to interact with senior officers.
As the bar made a modest profit, why the axe on this particular council service? CLLR JULIAN FULBROOK
