Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 19 April 2007
We beat the bounds
• IN near tropical temperatures last Saturday about three dozen hardy individuals, many of them Camden officers, completed the historic ceremonial Beating the Bounds 17-mile walk with the Mayor around the perimeter of the Borough of Camden, in aid of the Mayor’s charity – the NSPCC.
Along the way, we were joined by several councillors for sections and one in particular gave cause for celebration. Councillor Jane Schoplin walked with us for seven miles right across the north of the borough, celebrating her return to good health and she personally raised £250.
For those readers who would prefer a softer option, along with Camden Cycling Campaign (CCC) and the council’s all-party sustainability task force, I have organised a bike ride tracing Camden’s boundary all around Camden on Sunday June 24, setting out from the Town Hall at 10.30am. • YOU may be glad to know that I completed seven-and-a-half miles of the Mayor’s Charity Walk (four miles of this uphill) – the stretch from the Tricycle Theatre, Kilburn, over the top, to halfway down Dartmouth Park Hill, Highgate.
I’d only set a target of five miles (as you know, I am recovering from cancer), with an option of just £1 per mile accomplished for anyone – myself included – who wondered if I’d make that.
I’m hugely pleased. This is Camden’s own particular charity, our gesture as a borough that we can’t do it all alone! Cllr JANE SCHOPFLIN
