From blooms to scones, gardeners serve up a prize-winning taste of spring
GARDENERS were rewarded for their painstaking efforts at Hampstead Horticultural Society’s spring show in Gospel Oak on Saturday.
Members packed Gospel Oak Methodist Church in Agincourt Road for the afternoon event, where prizes were dished out for best flowering pot plant, best outdoor cut flowers and best spring garden among others.
A floral arrangement in a bird’s nest, entered by Serena Carr, 10, was among displays which caught the judges’ eyes. Serena’s grandfather Gordon found the wren’s nest in a conservatory in Yorkshire.
The society’s culinary stars were not forgotten. Members received prizes for the best cheese scones, the best honey cake, the best marmalade – Seville and otherwise – and the best fish pate.
