Globes grab edge for cup final reprise against Reddot
Camden Sunday League
Division One
Globetown 3, Reddot 1
DOUBLE-chasing Globetown were crowned Division One Champions on Sunday following a hard fought victory against Reddot at Hackney Marshes.
With the rival sides due to meet again this Sunday in the final of our New Journal Challenge Cup, the win could prove a huge physiological boost for Globetown as they chase a league and cup double.
In a thrilling encounter, Globetown took the lead midway through the first half when Danny Carson cut in from the right wing before unleashing a powerful drive past the keeper. But Reddot hit back to level the scores before the break courtesy of a magnificent strike from Alexie Nicolaou that left Globetown shot-stopper Paul Betts with no chance.
In the second half Globetown edged back in front when they were gifted an own goal, before Carson sealed the win with his second of the game.
Meanwhile Holloway Celtic consolidated second place with a 4-2 victory over Reddot’s sister club, RD Athletic. Sharp shooter Anthony Clark was in unstoppable form as he struck all four goals for Celtic.
Athletic had taken the lead through Paul Reid before Celtic hit back to take a 2-1 advantage. An own goal saw Athletic level the scores at 2-2, but in the end Celtic proved too strong as they went on to seal a convincing win.
Elsewhere the pick of the games came in Division Two, where Os Lusos beat Desportivo 13-0, while Maritimo battled out a 4-4 draw against Moorehouse.
Hornsey will take on Dinamo Dorigo in the final of the Junior Cup, while Cobden Athletic and Surreal Madrid will go head to head in the final of the Bill Price Memorial Cup next month.
