DOES P Stevenson (Letters, April 12) know where the canal barges could stop for loading and off-loading?
Without terminals, barges can’t pick up their freight. Does he know what road access is like to the canal, since cargo would have to be taken to and from the canal by lorry?
Every once in a while someone comes up with this bright idea of using Britain’s waterways to move freight. I can tell you that, as former depots become luxury housing and access roads go through residential areas, the chances of using Regent’s Canal for freight are almost non-existent. MARCIA MACLEOD
