A fat chance of fruity runners
•
IN these days of increasing obesity, I was astounded by the number of London Marathon fun-runners who were dressed as inappropriate food items such as cakes.
This year’s new recruit of a Bakewell tart proved no exception – not that it helped the ‘cakes’ make any determined effort to actually jog at all quickly, yet alone run.
Dare I tactfully suggest that should charity runners wish to dress up as grub items, they settle for a much healthier kind such as a vegetable, as I certainly witnessed no carrots, turnips or even a cabbage, unless they were hidden behind a rhino, dragon or other such large unwieldy creatures.
As far as the male generation is concerned, a pea sounds an ideal choice for “starters” as, furthermore, men can always stop for one of the better-known emergency types at the many wallsides that are generally available on the course, if they find they are unable to squeeze themselves into one of the many portaloos en route.
Additionally, fresh fruit could be considered.
As far as raspberries are concerned however, even these could take part, provided of course, solemn promises are made not to blow too many of them! SUE GODDARD
