Lido revamp delay
PLANS to ask the National Lottery Heritage Fund for a multi-million pound grant to refurbish Parliament Hill Lido have been put on hold.
The City of London, which manages Hampstead Heath and the 1938 Grade II-listed swimming pool, had asked for cash to improve changing rooms and the Rotunda café, and to tackle subsidence in the southern corner of the pool.
But now the City wants to include the lido in a larger grant bid that could include refurbishing changing rooms at Parliament Hill running track.
Andrew Robins, of Parliament Hill Lido Users Group, said swimmers wanted work on the lido completed as quickly as possible, but it was a difficult job and the priority was to make sure it was done properly.
He added that installing heating at the lido would in the long term make it a much greater success. “Many users would like to see the lido heated, but not in a way that would increase the carbon footprint,” Mr Robins added.
The lido opens for the summer season on Saturday with free swims for early risers.
