Murder accused has trial delayed

A MURDER suspect has had his trial delayed for three months after lawyers claimed he may have “a possible psychiatric defence”.
Judge Gerald Gordon was told at the Old Bailey on Friday that doctors needed time to assess Robert Michael Lewin, 33, who is accused of killing a drinking companion in Clerkenwell.
Lewin was arrested following the discovery by police of stabbing victim Brian Paul Treverton.
Mr Treverton, 46, was found in a pool of blood on the living-room floor of his Camden Council flat in Cavendish Mansions, Clerkenwell Road, on October 9 last year. He had suffered two stab wounds.
Neighbours heard loud voices at the one-bedroom, fourth-floor flat that evening.
Lewin, unemployed and of no settled address, surrendered himself at Holborn police station on October 11 and admitted being at the flat.
He maintained he had acted in self-defence when under threat from a knife. He denies murder and his trial, which had been due to start on Tuesday, will now begin on August 13.
