GOVERNMENT-appointed inspectors are close to bringing charges against Camden Council over the death of a scaffolder electrocuted on a Somers Town estate,
the New Journal has learned.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is still probing how Ralph ‘Barney’ Kennedy, 24, was killed but sources close to the investigation say inspectors are likely to recommend a prosecution in their final conclusions.
One insider said: “At the end of it all, the HSE will be looking at charges against the council. “It feels it doesn’t have a choice.”
Mr Kennedy died in September last year after touching a faulty light fitting while working on the Mayford estate.
A jury inquest returned an open verdict last month.
His girlfriend, Kelly Ivory, has already instructed lawyers to bring a case for compensation against the Town Hall on behalf of their two children.
The HSE can bring its own prosecution if it feels Camden has failed to make all its construction sites safe.
