Beware ring scam

• RECENTLY my husband has been approached on three separate occasions in the immediate vicinity of Holborn Police Station by people who have picked up a gold wedding ring and offered it to him and then demanded money.
Please advise your readers not to fall for this scam, the rings are stamped 18 carat but when scratched they are in fact base metal.
Last week we actually saw one of these people trick a pensioner out of £5 but we were to late to stop him handing over the money.
They seem to be targeting older people who can ill afford to loose money.
