Heath concerts meeting
MOVING the Kenwood concert stage to a new location could reduce noise levels for residents and make the season financially viable again for organisers, a public meeting heard last night (Wednesday).
More than a 100 residents and concert fans packed Hampstead Town Hall in Belsize Park for the occasionally stormy meeting, called by Kenwood House guardians English Heritage and organisers IMG to discuss ways of bringing back the season next year.
They axed this year’s concerts in February, arguing that licensing restrictions – including axing two of the ten concerts – had made the season “financially unviable”.
But IMG general manager Stephen Dee told the audience that moving the concert stage to an area called the pasture ground, further away from residents’ homes, would reduce sound leakage – and could increase audience capacity from 8,000 to 10,000. This would lead to a shorter but more profitable season for organisers.
Notes and feedback from the meeting will be published on the English Heritage website later this month, with a second public meeting planned for the summer.
