Lock-smith retires after more than 60 years
A WEST Hampstead barber is hanging up his scissors and comb after more than 60 years of service to the locks of the area.
John Foreman has been cutting hair in West End Lane since 1946, when he started out at 14 in a shop on the bridge. In 1970 he moved to his current premises.
Father-of-two Mr Foreman grew up in Iverson Road before being evacuated to Northampton during the war. He married his wife Pam after meeting her at a dance in Mapesbury Road.
Mr Foreman, 75 next week, said: “I’m going to go around London again and do everything I wanted to do – it’s just the freedom to go off for the day. I’m going to miss talking to my wonderful customers though.”
His customer of 20 years, Samuel Citron, 92, said the best thing about Mr Foreman was “when he waffles he doesn’t stop working”.
